5 Reasons to Travel With Your Family When You’re a Teenager

Vacations are supposed to be fun, relaxing, a time for adventure, a time to just chill out, a time for whatever you want… but if you’ve got a family vacation coming up and you’re kind of stressing about it, not too excited about spending time away from your friends, and just need a little convincing, then you’re in the right place.

5. It’s cheaper than traveling when you’re an adult

If your parents want to go on trips with you, take them up on it! When you’re in your 20’s, even 30’s, it’s not always easy to afford trips whenever you want. Maybe you’d rather be traveling solo or with a significant other or your buddies, but surely your family isn’t that bad to a point where you don’t even want to travel with them if you’re “paid” to do it.

Note: If you are struggling with any family-related issues and you need someone to talk here, here are some national hotlines for teens that can help with a variety of topics, and can help refer you to other resources as well.

4. You’re fortunate for the opportunity

If you get along relatively well with your parents, or at the very least if they’re halfway decent people and you recognize that, and they’re offering to take you on a family vacation – you’re honestly pretty lucky compared to a lot of people out there who have either lost their parents, lost touch with them, whose parents are toxic people, whose parents can’t afford to go on fancy trips, and the list goes on.

3. It’s a great way to bond

This might seem a bit cheesy or whatever but taking a trip with anybody is a great way to bond with them and form memories and doing so with your family members is no exception. Even if you see somebody every day, being in a new context opens up the door to create new memories and see a side of your family members that you might not always see.

Being at home in the same mundane routine all year can cause people to start to get on your nerves, so having a chance to break the monotony and enjoy your family in a stress-free environment of leisure is very, very healthy and beneficial!

2. Lots of great destinations to choose from

I’m not going to get into details about recommending different vacation spots for you or anything like that, you’ll have to figure out what seems appealing and do the research, but suffice to say – you’ve got the whole world to choose from.

There are so many family vacation ideas with teenagers in mind that you’ll definitely be able to find something that appeals to you.

1. You’ll miss some time with your friends, but…

That can just give you more reason to be excited to get home and see your pals again. If you go away for a week or two with your family, or for however long your trip is during a break, that’s some good hang-time you’ll miss out on for sure but you should still have plenty of time for that, whereas quality family time is a lot more precious in the grand scheme of things.

Not to take away from your friends, I’m sure they’re awesome, but you probably see them pretty often as it is. Who knows, maybe a friend can join you on the trip?
