It's not necessary to use two condoms at a time. It's definitely not a good idea to use a female condom with a male condom, because there's a risk that they could stick to one another and pull one another off or out.

If you're going to use two male condoms (sometimes referred to as "double-bagging"), it's a good idea to use plenty of lubricant between the two condoms. Use only water-based lubricants, like Astroglide or K-Y jelly with latex condoms. Products that contain oil — like Vaseline or body lotion — will work against the condom, because oil damages the latex, making it more likely to break.

When used correctly and consistently (every time you have sex), condoms are up to 98 percent effective against pregnancy. Condoms also reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections.
