Find a Planned Parenthood health center near you!

This is the deal:
We're trying to give you a lot of the information you need about sex and sexuality on this site. We want this site to be a place you can go for answers, where you can comfortably read, write and explore as much or as little as you please. This is your place to go for information, news and entertainment about sexuality, sexual health and personal issues that affect you now and may affect your future.

While this is your private space on the Internet, it is also a community of other teens with whom you are invited to share your ideas, opinions, and problems.

To accomplish this, there are a few things we must ask of you. And in return, there are a lot of things you can expect from us. It's all about cooperating to make this the best teen site on the web, and making it the best source for information you need.

So here it goes:

YOU:
Please read the Terms of Use and Privacy Statement below. By using this site you are agreeing to abide by our Terms of Use and Privacy Statement. Check again from time to time for updates.

Be careful when you send us stuff to post on the site. We want to post your writing in your own words, so express yourself, but keep it as clean as possible.

We will only collect your e-mail address when you indicate you would like something sent to your e-mail address, like the Ask the Expert of the day and teenwire.com® e-news. We will not use your e-mail address to contact you for any other reason. Nor will we sell or distribute your e-mail address to anyone else.

Be respectful of other people's opinions and lives. You can disagree all you like, but remember we all have a right to an opinion.

We want to protect your anonymity, so please do not tell us your name (or your nickname) or your address and keep other identifying details to a minimum.

Try to use the site features for their best purpose. For instance, don't send a question on the "Talk Back" form, because it may not get you the information or help that you need. The only place on the site that is designed to accept and answer questions is the Ask the Experts section.

Remember, this site is no substitute for in-person medical care. If you think you might have a health problem — medical or emotional — take care of yourself by visiting a health care professional or counselor.

US:
We have done our best to build a Web site that preserves your anonymity. We will use the information you provide us responsibly.

Keep in mind, Planned Parenthood reserves the right to share information you provide (including any identifying information you provide) with legal authorities if it is, in our sole opinion, necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding suspected fraud, situation involving threats or potential harm to the safety of any person or property, or if required by law (such as if required by a subpoena, court orders or other legal means).

We will provide the latest, most accurate information we can.

We will provide information to help you make informed decisions about your life.

  • If you join one of our e-mail lists, our third-party vendor will have a record of your e-mail address. We will only use your e-mail address to send you the information you requested, like the Ask the Expert of the day or teenwire.com e-news. See "E-Mail Lists" (make this jumplink to "E-Mail lists" below) for more information on e-mail list management.

This means your submission can be read all over the world and downloaded and copied, as well as in other on-line or off-line forms. If you don't want your question, article or other materials to be posted and read by others, do not submit it. Before posting a submission on the site, PPFA will edit it — lightly or heavily — in order to make it clear and to preserve your anonymity. You can do your part by editing it yourself first to eliminate anything that might identify you or other people mentioned in your submission. PPFA is not obligated to and makes no representation that it will publish any particular submission. Furthermore, all of the material you submit must be your own creation — not copied from someone or something else. Once a submission is published on the Web site, PPFA may take it down for any or no reason.

Registration, polling, In Your Own Words, Ask the Experts and "Talk Back" data, along with our tabulations of where our users are "clicking" the most (see "Information Automatically Collected" and "Use of Cookies" below), will be compiled into statistics to inform us about your needs and interests. 4. Information Automatically Collected and Stored
As is true of most Web sites you enter, we automatically collect and store some information about your computer and your visit and store it in log files. This information includes your computer's (or your ISP's) Internet Protocol (IP) address (this is not your e-mail address); the domain from which you access the Internet (e.g., "AOL.com" or "msn.com"); the name, version, and specifications of your computer and your computer's operating system; the Internet address of the Web site, if any, from which you came to our site; the date and time you arrived at our site and how long you spent on the site; and which pages you visited.

We use this information to formulate statistics (possibly with the help of outside experts) that show the number of visitors to the different sections of our site and to help us make our site more useful to you. For example, we use the browser information to help us design our Web site so that as many people as possible will be able to view the pages correctly. These statistics do not reveal personal information.

5. Use of Cookies
We use session cookies on teenwire.com to allow use of certain features only by members, to track the number of times you have used a certain feature and to keep track of unique visitors to the pages of teenwire.com.

Session cookies are small text files that are placed in your computer's Random Access Memory. If you register or login as a member of teenwire.com, we place a session cookie on your computer so that you can use certain features of our site that are accessible only to members. The cookie only resides in your Random Access Memory for the length of your browser session. For example, if you log in as a member and then browse through different pages of the Web site, the cookie will allow you to use certain features (e.g., Talk Back and Ask the Experts) and will also keep track of the number of times you used a certain features (e.g., voting on a poll, asking a question to Ask the Experts, posting to In Your Own Words).. However, once you close your browser window, the session cookie times out. If you open a new browser window and return to our Web site, you will have to log in again to gain access to the member-only features.

6. Your Help Is Needed
Although PPFA does its best to protect your privacy on our site, we need your help.
  • You have control over your own privacy. Think carefully before providing any personal information. When you write to us or send us a submission to publish on the site, do not tell us your name, the name of other users, or of your friends. In fact, try to keep out any information that you think may identify you or others
  • No e-mail or Web transmission is completely secure against interception. If you are worried because your communication is very sensitive, do not send it via e-mail or submit it online. Click here for additional ways to contact us.
  • We cannot protect you once you leave our site, such as by "hyperlink." So when you visit other Web sites, check each one's privacy policy yourself, and be careful about the information you submit. In fact, if another site is collecting certain information that can identify you and you are under 13 years old, the law may require that your parent(s) provide written consent.
  • In addition to the records left on your computer by cookies, your browser and operating system contain other records of your Web browsing and other actions (e.g., browser history). As with cookies, you can find information about how to clear these history trails in your browser's "Help" section or through other Web sites that provide detailed information for each browser and operating system.
