Got a sexual health question? Ask the Experts!

Where can I ask my question?
Go to Ask the Experts to ask your question about sex, sexual health, or relationships. You must be a registered user and logged in to submit a question. We regret that we cannot answer all questions that are submitted.

Where can I find the answer to my question?
We receive a very high volume of questions and regret that we cannot answer all questions. If we are able to answer your question, you should receive a response to it within about two weeks. You can find the answer to your question in your mailbox. You must be logged in to have access to your mailbox.

If we aren't able to answer your question, please check out our Ask the Experts archives — chances are, someone has already asked a question that's very similar to yours.

How can I tell you my suggestions and give you feedback about the site?
We welcome suggestions and feedback from our readers. To share your comments, visit our Talk Back page. If you are a registered user and include your username and password, we may respond to your comment. If you aren't registered or don't include your username and password, you can send us your feedback but you will not be able to receive a response from the teenwire.com editors.

How do I communicate with other teens on the site?
There are two ways that teenwire.com users can interact with each other. The first way is to visit our weekly Ask the Experts moderated chat. Users can ask sexual health questions and see what other teens are asking. Chats are held every Tuesday from 8-9 p.m. Eastern Time.

The second way to interact with other users is to submit a topic to In Your Own Words. Need help dealing with a breakup? Want advice on asking out a crush? Submit your topic, and if we select it for publication, you'll be able to see what other teenwire.com users have to say. You can also post responses to topics that other users have submitted.

All questions on our chats and submissions to In Your Own Words are reviewed and may be edited for publication.

Why do you only have moderated chats on the site?
A moderated chat means that all questions and comments you submit during a chat are reviewed by a moderator. The moderator then decides which questions will be answered by the experts. There is no unmoderated chat on the site because we want to ensure that you always receive accurate information when visiting the site. Some teens are misinformed about health facts and may give wrong information to the thousands of other teens visiting an unmoderated chat room.

I don't know what some of these words mean. Is there a glossary where I can look them up? And can I search the site?
Yes! At the top of each page, there's a white box where you can enter a term. To find a definition for the term, click the "quick definition" arrow on the left after typing in the term. To search for the term on the site, click the "search" arrow" on the right.

How is my privacy protected when I'm on the site?
We've taken every effort to ensure that your visits at teenwire.com remain private and under your control. We protect your privacy by not requesting personal information. Even if you do decide to register as a member of teenwire.com, we don't ask for information that can identify you (like your real name or address).

We will collect your e-mail address when you indicate you would like something sent to your e-mail, like the Ask the Experts question of the day. We will not use your e-mail address to contact you for any other purpose. Nor will we sell or distribute your e-mail address to anyone else.

Visit our Terms of Use and Privacy Statement for additional information.

What are cookies? Does teenwire.com use cookies? If so, why?
Cookies are used by Web sites to store bits of information on their users' hard drives. Despite what you may have heard, cookies cannot be used to send your name, address, e-mail addresses, or credit card numbers back to a Web site. Cookies don't pass information to Web sites; Web sites pass information to cookies.

Certain interactive areas of teenwire.com require registration, and we use a special kind of cookie called a session-based cookie so that we can quickly check to see if you're registered or not. Session-based cookies don't get written to your hard drive at all. Since it's held in the browser's memory, it gets erased as soon as you quit your browser.

I don't have JavaScript on my browser. What am I missing?
We use JavaScript for some extra functionality on teenwire.com. For instance, registration requires JavaScript — we use JavaScript to check to see if you're logged in or not. But you don't need JavaScript and you don't need to register just to check out the site.

If you're not using a browser that supports JavaScript, you will not be able to access features that require registration, or many interactive features like the glossary, quizzes, and search function. We strongly recommend that you use a JavaScript-enabled browser to get the best experience on our Web site.

JavaScript is supported by Netscape 2 and higher, Internet Explorer 3 and higher, and all other new browsers. If you're not sure if you're using a browser that supports JavaScript, you can always go to the Microsoft, Netscape, or Mozilla sites and download a new browser for free.

Is this site a place where I can get help in an emergency?
No. For medical emergencies, seek help from a trained medical professional. You can call 1-800-230-PLAN to find a Planned Parenthood health center near you. You might also want to check out our Resources page, which includes a number of listings for crisis hotlines.

Why do you ask users to register? Why should I bother?
Registering enables you to ask questions, receive answers to your questions, participate in chats, and submit topics and responses to In Your Own Words.

If I register, can I use my teenwire.com mailbox to e-mail people?
No. The mailbox on teenwire.com only allows you to use the interactive features of teenwire.com. It is not an e-mail program. The only way to communicate with other teenwire.com visitors is to submit responses to In Your Own Words or visit the Ask the Experts chats.

What do I do if I forget my username and/or password?
When you registered, you submitted a password hint. In order to get your hint, type in your username in both the username and password fields of the login page. Your hint will appear at the top of the page.

If you still can't remember your password or your username, then you will need to re-register. We are unable to e-mail you your password. Please keep in mind that you will not be able to transfer your messages from your old mailbox to your new one.
